Vehicle Classifications

In Mexico, armored vehicle classifications are defined by NOM-142-SCFI-2000 standards, which specify levels of protection based on the type of threat they can withstand. These classifications are similar to international standards but tailored to address the unique security challenges in the region, such as high rates of organized crime and firearm use. The levels range from Level I, providing protection against small-caliber handguns, to Level VII, capable of withstanding high-powered rifles like the .50 caliber. Intermediate levels, such as Level III, are among the most common, offering resistance to high-powered handguns and standard assault rifles like the AK-47 and AR-15. These standards are designed to address real-world threats faced in Mexico, with higher levels of armoring often used by government officials, corporate executives, and individuals at high risk of targeted attacks.
